MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A cold front is pushing through the area this morning and we're starting to clear out, says WMBF News Meteorologist Jessica Ryan.

A stray shower is possible through the afternoon, but most of us stay dry. The winds will also pick up today out of the northwest at about 10-20mph with higher gusts. Highs this afternoon will be in the upper 70s inland, low 80s at the coast.

Mom surprises kids with $200k lottery prize

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - How long after realizing that you won $200,000 from the South Carolina Education Lottery would you wait to claim your prize?

For a mother from Hartsville, the answer to that question is only the time it takes to drive to the claims center. She bought the winning ticket at a gas station on Oates Highway in Lamar and was in Columbia to collect her $200,000 an hour and a half later.

Police chase ends with alleged car thieves behind bars

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - A car stolen from a Hartsville dealership has been recovered, and the three people inside that led authorities on a chase are now behind bars.

The white Jeep that sped away from police was allegedly stolen from Northcutt Motors on West Carolina Avenue around 9:37 a.m. Wednesday morning, says Hartsville City spokesman Russell Cox.

Loaded gun found at Darlington High

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - A high school student has been taken into custody after authorities found a loaded gun in their possession.

The possible weapon was reported to a teacher at Darlington High School by another student before 2:30 p.m. Thursday. That teacher immediately relayed the information to an administrator that called upon the School's Resource Officer to investigate.

83-year-old woman charged after biker killed in collision near Hartsville

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A motorcycle rider is dead and an 83-year-old woman has been charged after an accident near Hartsville Thursday morning.

At about 6:25 a.m. on SC Highway 151 near Hartsville, a Yamaha motorcycle was driving north when a woman driving a Chevy attempted to make a left turn on Dunlap Drive, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol's Cpl. Sonny Collins. The driver failed to yield to the motorcycle and the vehicles collided.

The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet and was killed, Cpl. Collins said.

Darlington Co. sheriff uses magazines to reach kids

safety of family members so he is asking businesses throughout the county to
raise financial support to publish and distribute the material.

Three informational magazines, Let's All Work to Fight Drug Abuse; Your Life, Your World, Safe and Secure; and Your Life, Your Choices, Right or Wrong have been distributed to area schools and organizations to be made available to county families, especially those with students in school.
